Attorney Christopher Gaston Discusses Supreme Court DACA Hearings

On November 12th, the U.S. Supreme Court began hearing arguments regarding whether the Trump administration can legally end DACA. Because DACA has been at the center of the immigration debate, the case is being closely watched by lawyers and immigration advocates throughout the country.

Our founding attorney, Christopher A. Gaston, was recently interviewed by WPTV 5 and was asked about what this case means for the hundreds and thousands of immigrants who illegally crossed the border into the U.S. while they were minors. Attorney Gaston represents 50 clients who either already live in the U.S. under DACA or are trying to petition to be approved for DACA. According to Gaston, his clients are “nervous and dealing with a lot of uncertainty” as the case makes its way through the Supreme Court.

The final decision will ultimately determine if 800,000 young immigrants who have been living in the U.S all their lives are going to be able to continue living in the country based on the protections offered under the program. Attorney Gaston notes that the Trump administration doesn’t have an alternative plan in place for those covered by DACA, which makes the decision all the more important.

While the President’s attempts to end DACA have been blocked by lower courts, USCIS is no longer accepting applications for the program. Those who have already been approved for DACA are not sure whether they will be protected from deportation orders until a decision has been reached.
